George Poelcher
“I find that most of us aspire to use our camera to document something profound, wishing that we may be lucky enough to capture a moment unseen in the works of others. I’m guilty of this search myself, but have found that the beauty of the ordinary—people, their stories, their interactions—far exceeds any manufactured achievement the artist places on themselves. I dedicate my work to documenting the normality of humans and the meaning held deeper within.“
George Poelcher is a film photographer based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His work focuses on documenting human interactions and portraits through street photography, made mostly in 35mm black-and-white film with the Minolta SRT-200 and X-700. He cites the current street photography scene in New York City as a continued source of inspiration to document modern life of the average American.
George has exhibited in several gallery events within the Pittsburgh-area, including the Johnstown Cultural Art Crawl and PCA&M Member and Student Exhibition. His passion for the medium extends into the lab and is currently a team member at the Bodega Film Lab in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh.
George is currently exploring medium-format photography, and enjoys the challenge of creating captivating compositions in night photography.
